Wari & Mai

Wari and Mai are sisters. Wari is 9 and Mai is 7 years old. They are both born in Thailand but they are Burmese. Like so many others they were forced to flee from Burma to Thailand. They travelled to Thailand together with their mom and little brother. Their mother came to BaanChivitMai to ask for protection for her daughters.

She told us that she had escaped from her violent and alcoholized husband who had decided to sell their two girls to be able to buy alcohol. He would start with the oldest sister Wari. He had her locked into a shed in the mountains while he was searching for a hallick to make a deal with. Someone offered him about $700 which is a lot of money in Thailand.



After a few days the mother started to get really worried about Wari and knew that something must be wrong. She finally heard from someone what her husband was planning and also where her daughter could be found. She decided to grab her three kids, leave her husband and run. To this day the husband have no idea where his family are at and the girls are safe at BaanChivitMai enjoying being able to go to school and eat every day.
